Why walk when you can roll?
I’ve been testing out a new device – an electric unicycle called Airwheel. I’ve seen some people online use it for commuting around the town. But I, of course, have a different purpose for it in mind. Continue reading Why walk when you can roll?

Today I’m going to compare three 7-inch camera monitors – they are all very good monitors and they fit a wide range of budgets, from $200 all the way to $2000. Continue reading 7-inch Camera Monitors Comparison
The Brain Hack – the ultimate high-concept short
Many filmmakers have the dream of making a short film that will break them into Hollywood and give them the chance to make a big budget movie. This dream just became reality for the up-to-now-unknown director/writer Jospeh White. Continue reading The Brain Hack – the ultimate high-concept short
Great Gear Prizes in CAME-TV Contest
I’m super excited today. CAME-TV, the company behind many of the great film gear that I have reviewed over the last few years, has donated five prizes that I can give away in a contest. They include two of their newest 3-axis camera gimbals, LED lights, a DSLR camera cage and a steadicam (including the vest). It is all great equipment that I am using or would love to use myself. Aputure 7-inch Field Monitor
Today I wanted to tell you about a cool little monitor that I had a chance to use recently. It’s called Aputure VS-2. Indie Film Spotlight: “4 Nights In The Hamptons”
There is obviously a lot of skill that goes into making a feature film. It’s not just about the artistic and technical skills, though. On large projects, it is also essential to manage well your resources. I recently saw the film “4 Nights In The Hamptons” and it serves as a great example of creative filmmaking – not only with respect to storytelling, but also with respect to film production. Atomos Shogun Review, including guide to Vectorscope, Waveform & False Color
I’ve finally had the time to test out the Atomos Shogun 4K. For those of you who don’t know, the Shogun is a 4K video recorder and monitor, all in one. When combined with a camera like the Panasonic GH4 or Sony A7s, it lets you record 4K in RAW or the high-quality 10-bit Apple ProRes 422 (up to 30fps). You can also shoot slow motion (120/60/50 fps) in full 1080P HD. As a monitor, it has a beautiful 7.1” 320ppi 1920×1080 touch screen. And those are just the highlights. Lighting using just the sun & a reflector
Even though I normally have access to lighting equipment, I often just use the sun and a reflector to light the films or music videos I work on. This way I can move fast and save a lot of money by not renting those huge and expensive HMI Par lights (but if you want to learn to use HMI Pars, I have a tutorial about them too). Continue reading Lighting using just the sun & a reflector
KONOVA Master Pan
I got a new addition to my KONOVA slider system. It’s called “Master Pan” and it allows you to pan the camera while moving it along a slider. This is great if you want a product shot where the camera is always centered on the product, or if you want to do a moving timelapse shot that includes a camera pan. Continue reading KONOVA Master Pan
