My long awaited review of the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is finally here!
Here is my video review of the camera.
I have been using the new camera from Blackmagic for almost 2 months and I am loving what I this little beast produces. We live in incredible times where we can capture 12 bit RAW video at 4K up to 60 frames per second in a small, handheld camera. Image quality in the Pocket Cinema 4K camera is truly amazing. Both the Apple ProRes and the RAW produce beautiful images. If you don’t mind the bigger files then the RAW will obviously allow you to change the ISO, White Balance and many other settings in editing. I was able to shoot straight into the sun with the images completely blown out and then in post all I had to do was to adjust my ISO down and suddenly I perfectly recovered the shots.
What is funny is that I originally ordered the camera thinking it would make a perfect additions a B-Camera for my URSA Mini Pro. Mainly because it is small and makes it much easier and faster to set it up on a gimbal or stabilizer. Also it handles low light situations better because it has higher ISO options than the URSA Mini Pro. Since I got the camera however I think I have been shooting with it more than the URSA Mini Pro. In fact I think in the last two months I only took the URSA Mini Pro out 5 times. Everything else I’ve shot on the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. That’s how great this little “B-Camera” is!
