GH4 Firmware 2.3 with V-Log available now for FREE!

Panasonic announced months ago that they were working on a brand new custom profile for the GH4 camera. They made a lot of current and possible new GH4 owners excited with the promise of a true, flat, LOG profile that will also allow 12 stops of latitude. Unfortunately, once they announced the new firmware, they also disappointed many because of the $99 price tag attached, in order to get the V-Log L profile.

After all the complaining, some of the hardcore GH4 owners pre-paid for the new firmware and are awaiting the exciting new release that Panasonic will make available in a few days. What Panasonic (and many of the people who pre-paid) didn’t realize is that the new LOG profile is already available through a glitch in their mobile Image App (both for Apple & Android devices). Not only is it available, but it can be unlocked for free!

Seems like some people stumbled upon this by pure accident and some have posted a video of just how easy it is to get the new V-Log L for free. I can’t confirm that it works or that this won’t void your warranty or worse – break your camera. But if you are interested in trying it out, then watch this video.

Personally, I would recommend that you avoid the hassle and the possibility of damaging the camera by using this hack and instead just upgrade the firmware of your GH4 camera to version 2.3 and then buy the license key for the new V-Log L profile.

You can download the new firmware here.
Also you can buy the V-Log L profile here for $99.

Here are some tests done with V-Log L by James Miller that show of just what this new profile looks like.
