Buying actors’ voice packs and other possibilities with today’s technologies

Today I wanted to share with you two technology videos that got me excited, but also a bit scared. The technology that they cover has many applications, including in filmmaking.

The first video is about a small start-up in Montreal that has created a technology that only needs a few minutes to create a voice synthesizer for anyone.

“This AI Can Clone Any Voice, Including Yours”

The second video shows how you can now take a video of a person and in real time change his or hers expressions.

“Face2Face: Real-time Face Capture and Reenactment of RGB Videos”

There are obviously dangers associated with these technologies, but since this is a filmmaking website, I’ll focus on applications in filmmaking.

So, if you combine these two technologies, you could, for example, bring back dead actors; or maybe make new songs with long gone singers.

Also, this would make voiceover work and ADR for films much easier. You could just buy a Ryan Gosling AI voice pack and get a perfectly timed ADR; or even add new lines to a film.

What do you think of this technology? How would you like to see it used in filmmaking?
