Proaim Flycam stabilizer

Are traditional stabilizers dead? New Proaim Flycam set-up and tests

Despite owning digital gimbal stabilizers, there are still many times when I use a traditional mechanical stabilizer. They offer several advantages:

  • they don’t require any power
  • they are more durable, especially in cold or wet weather
  • they typically fly camera set-ups of a much wider weight range

This new Proaim Flycam is able to fly cameras weighing from 1.3 lbs to 15.4 lbs. No digital stabilizer has that big of a range.

The disadvantage is that the traditional stabilizers are harder to learn to use. But once you do learn, it’s like riding a bicycle. You never forget.

What I like about this new flycam is the head and the built-in baseplate. It’s very similar in design to the Devin Graham Glidecam that I reviewed previously and loved.

You can get the Proaim Flycam Vista-II steadicam on Amazon, eBay, and the company’s website

Here is my review of the Devin Graham Glidecam.
