Thanks to B&H Photo Video, I finally got my hands on the highly anticipated Sony a6300. This DSLM camera offers great specs despite being priced as a budget model – just under $1000 for the body.

So far, I have used the camera casually, while on vacation, and have to say that I love it. For the price, you are getting a great camera for home videos and family photos, but it is also a great option for filmmakers – the video quality is the same as on the Sony a7S II. Once I have a chance to use it on a project, I will make a more in-depth review geared towards professional users, so stay tuned.

Here are some of the key points from my review:

The good:
• Records 4K video
• Amazing EVF
• LCD can display 120 fps
• Great AF (autofocus) system
• No overheating issues like with the a6000
• Has S-Log2 and S-Log3 with base ISO 800
• Shoots 11 fps full resolution photos
• Has a mic input, which was missing on the a6000
• Great low-light performance

The bad:
• Bad jello effect in 4K recording
• Moire visible in 1080p at 120fps
• Battery drains fast when shooting 4K video
• No in-camera stabilization like in the Sony a7S II
• No headphone jack like in the Sony a7S II
